It can be risky to read the lives of saints if we do it with the intention of imitating them in every detail. What the life of a saint can inspire in us is the will to live in the same total obedience and surrender, in the same openness to the Spirit’s constantly new impulses. It is fascinating to see what God can do with a person who is willing to follow the Lamb wherever he goes (Rev 14:4). But it is good to know that the Lamb is totally “unpredictable” and that there is a new, surprising path for each person.
— Wilfred Stinessen, cited in Love Like a Saint

Praise for Love Like a Saint

“Today, as in every age, the greatest need of our world is saints. Liz Kelly paints the portraits of real life women who sought virtue and holiness in their daily lives. In a practical way, she draws out the interconnectedness of the virtues as they build upon and illuminate each other. This book will be a source of encouragement and hope for those pursuing holiness in their own lives.  I recommend it wholeheartedly.”

—The Most Rev. Andrew H. Cozzens, S.T.D., D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis

“This new book will inspire many to live the life of holiness and peace that we are all called to as disciples of Jesus. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church we read, "Within the communion of the Church, the Holy Spirit 'distributes special graces among the faithful of every rank' for the building up of the Church. Now, "to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good" (#951). Liz Kelly introduces us to and invites us to taste and savor the power of real mutual friendship with the saints as they intercede for us and with us. Through these mutual friendships we are honored to claim a deeper participation in our own unique charisms that bless the Church as Christ's Mystical Body.”

—Fr. John Horn

Love like a Saint is a beautiful deep dive into various holy women who have been incredibly inspirational examples of a surrendered heart to God. This abandoned hope in our Lord is transformative to our every day, when we recognize that He is the source of all of our holiness, our virtue, our onward journey in the spiritual life. This book will lead you to a deepening love of virtue—not one of obligation, but a desire to look more and more like the Lord. I am so grateful to Liz for writing such an important and vital book to our spiritual journey, and I am even more grateful for the lives of these women who so exemplify love of our Lord. “

I love, love, love Love Like a Saint! Through captivating storytelling and frequent quippy turns of a phrase, Elizabeth Kelly invites you into intimate friendship with some spunky, spirited, prayerful, and patient, holy women. In sharing her story, Kelly links arms with you and takes you on a virtuous journey while at the same time connecting you to saintly women whose struggles and littleness became joy and greatness through their complete surrender to the love of God. The result—an extraordinary band of Christian friendship that inspires you to courageously embrace being the saint God has called you to be—no matter how unpredictable your path to sainthood may be. A brilliant book for anyone who could use a few colorful companions on this journey!”

“In this graceful, penetrating guide to the forgotten virtues, Elizabeth Kelly introduces readers to a series of lesser-known holy women whose paths to heaven are both eminently relatable and utterly unique. Love Like a Saint challenges today’s women to see the story that Jesus is weaving in our own lives, and to respond to His grace with the small, daily acts of love that are the stepping stones to eternal joy.”
